International Missions

Compass International Missions focuses on new church planting and on helping existing churches increase the effectiveness of their outreach and discipleship programs.

 

Our guiding principles for involvement with missionaries and/or missions organizations are as follows:

 

• Our primary goal is to use Nationals to reach Nationals.
  
  
• Our desire is to have a greater impact in fewer ventures, resulting in larger amounts of funding going to a smaller pool of organizations.
  
  
• Our support of any missionary or missions organization will not be in perpetuity.
  We will either enter into a commitment for a specific term or we will re-evaluate commitments at least once every three years.
  
  
• As missions falls under the Send category of our spiritual growth pathway, our involvement in missions should provide opportunities for our members to serve in this ministry with their unique gifts and talents.

Compass currently partners with ministries in many different areas of the world through prayer and financial support.

Our Partners

AFRICA:  Merle and Claudia Wiens serve in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, East Africa with ReachGlobal, the international mission outreach of the Evangelical Free Church of America. Merle serves as Associate Leader of ReachGlobal’s ministries in Africa. Claudia is involved in student and women’s ministry outreaches. Compass has been a part of the Wiens’ support team for over 15 years.

MEXICO:  Felipe and Eva Vazquez and their three children are planting an Evangelical Free Church in Toluca, Mexico. Pastor Felipe’s efforts are focused on a community of over 35,000 people which is completely without an evangelical witness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Compass was able to send a six-person team to Toluca in 2010 to assist with their first VBS where over 20 children committed their lives to Jesus Christ. The team’s presence also allowed Felipe and Eva to begin to forge new relationships with many children and adults in their community. Our goal is to have teams go to Toluca on an annual basis as long as Pastor Felipe has ministry work for us to do.

UKRAINE:  Eric and Beth Yodis serve with WorldVenture in Donetsk, Ukraine. They are actively engaged in planting a new evangelical church and in construction of a new church building. Eric and Beth have been friends of Compass for many years and received a two-man team from Compass in 2010 to help with the church building construction.

INDIA:  Compass began a Church-to-Church (C2C) Partnership with Bethel Church in Dandkhora, India in 2010. Compass sent a two-person team to visit this partner church and begin our relationship with them. Compass people have also sponsored, through Compassion International, over 60 children in our partner’s Child Development Center. We are now prayerfully considering ways to strengthen this partnership for the glory of God.

Dave and Judy Buckert serve with the Centers of Church Based Training as their primary leaders to disciple pastors, and in turn their churches, in Mexico, Latin America, and South America. Dave and Judy have served the Lord in South America for many years and lately have been serving pastors and churches from their base in Tucson with CCBT. They also facilitated the partnership Compass now has with Felipe and Eva Vazquez.

How You Can Get Involved

Short-term mission trips will be scheduled every year to some and/or all of our international partners. Opportunities are announced and details are rolled out as the trips are scheduled.
